I don't think that I'm ever going to see this movie. It just doesn't interest me in the least.
It doesn't surprise me that the movie is a hit on the US market, since pretty most every guy who played with his G.I. Joe or watched the cartoon once will go and see this movie. G.I. Joe as far as I know is pretty much only an American phenomenon, however. They never carried the toys, shown the cartoons or sold the comic books in Austria (and I think the rest of Europe for the most part). I guess that's because the whole shit was just too American and patriotic and unrelatable to European kids. So I don't really get why this movie is an international box office hit as well (if Ramon is indeed correct). Here in Austria pretty much no one I know gives a shit about G.I. Joe and the movie.
Transformers is another thing, though. The toys and cartoons were all over the place in the eighties and early ninetees.
It seems to me like the only good movies that are coming out right now are comic book movies (with the exception of Star Trek and Inglorious Basterds perhaps). I'm so sick of mindless random bullshit CGI action flicks. Gone are the times when Action movies have been at least clever when they didn't have an original plot (well, at least they usually had one) like Die Hard, Rambo or the old Terminator. Nowadays it's just about CGI, explosions and cleavage. The fucking movies pretty much all seem the same if you take away the giant robots, modern gadgets or whatever the fuck is the flavour of the month right now.
